Are we in danger…

Our band 'planner' ... what are we becoming? Are we in danger of becoming a business?

…what’s holding us back?

  1. In my view, most successful bands, are also a successful business. Certainly from a Record Label’s point of view, any band that makes them money is just business. A commodity. Nothing new there, I’m sure.
    I guess it comes down to why you do what you do:
    Is it strictly for money? – you are a business;
    Is it because of an inner compulsion (music is the highest art, after all), but you want to make a living off it? – you are an artist .. with business overtures (no shame in that, as far as I’m concerned!);
    Is it because of inner compulsion only, and you mean it when you say that money is no consideration at all – you are an artist extraordinair; a rarity that is doomed to become a side-note in life’s History pages.
    Commercial viability has always been a conundrum for the true-at-heart artist, in any field. Even with the best intentions, many will be castigated for ‘doing it for the money’, even when that’s the furthest from the truth. Then when you aren’t making gazillions, you’re classed as a failure. People are fickle.
    Do what you feel you’re best at, guys.

    • hey man… wow, what a reply…
      may i ask who you are ?? 🙂
      well i guess the thing to remember is that we’re all better off when we can support ourselves making this art, and that doesn’t mean living the high life. furthermore, the art itself improves when you dedicate all your time to it without also working in a shitty cafe. this is easy to forget, for many artists…
      the other thing, is that if we did anything for the money, we’d all have chosen different professions… ha

  2. No, no danger! As long as there is Holsten next to you don’t be scared of becoming too serious!

    Nice to have you in Germany! Damn, that I moved to the south after spending the last winter in Berlin. Have a great time, mates! I hope I can visit one of your gigs after missing them in Melbourne.

    Take care,

  3. hey guys, I’m a Melbournian in Berlin atm and I heard you on the radio today! Crazy stuff hearing aussies coming out of the radio! Enjoy the cold, I’m finding the best way to deal with it is to eat and drink lots. Try the glühwein with rum in it, thank me later : )

    • Hey there… is it Melanie?
      That’s great! Ha.
      Well we’re here in Berlin now of course… and we’ll be getting started on the gigging next year, releasing our album and so on. Definitely come along to a show! We’ll be sure to keep you posted…
      We’ve been going hard on the gluhwein, yes. It is rather sweet… takes us on a bit of a blood-sugar-rollercoaster-ride in large proportions. With rum? haven’t gone there. scared. but it’s only a matter of time. anything to keep the cold out…
